SUP is a fast growing activity it started in Hawaii as an offshoot of surfing, instead of surfers sitting on their boards until they caught a wave stand-up paddle boards enabled surfers to paddle into the wave and already be standing with a paddle to help balance and control the board. SUP has grown massively and now incorporates such other activities as yoga which combined with the water and board is great fun. we have probably the best location on the river Wye for SUP as we have a lovely little beach right next to our access point here in Symonds Yat West.
You can hire awesome Red Paddle stand up paddle boards from us the same way we hire canoes and kayaks, again the same as with kayaks we require for self guided hire that you’ve had some degree of previous experience, we need you to know that it’s a river journey you are committing to and understand that it’s a fantastic adventure experience in wild country so not the ideal time to try kayaking or SUPing for the very first time as your are on your own on your board or kayak albeit with a friend in another boat, if you struggle to get to grips with your boat your partner can’t help that much, in an open canoe however you always have at least two people so we are happy for complete novices to take them on self guided river journeys.
For SUP groups with some previous experience our professional coaches can also run any guided river journey for you from 1/2 day to multiple days, develop your skills and enjoy the stunning Wye valley at the same time, contact us for more information about guided SUP trips and check out our events page for dates of sessions anyone can join.
If you already have a group of your own well that’s great we can run any type of SUP session you like from beginner intro sessions to advanced coaching sessions at any location any time of the year, maybe a river journey or a lake session, the choice is yours. For self guided river journeys trips river conditions are best between the months of April and November outside of that it’s much more down to Mother Nature if conditions are suitable.
We supply pretty much everything you need, boards, paddles, buoyancy aids, helmets etc. and on our events sessions or guided trips one of our awesome instructors too, all you need to bring are clothes you don’t mind potentially getting wet and something for your feet like old trainers etc .(no flip flips or crocs please!)
We also offer a combination of paddle boarding and a range of other activities like gorge scrambling, why not spend a wet and wild day in neoprene and learn to board in the morning then we jump in a bus and whilst having lunch travel down to the stunning waterfall country at the southern tip of the Brecon Beacons National Park and spend the afternoon scrambling up a stunning gorge and jumping into plunge pools in south wales.
If you are looking to maybe mix it up a little then why not combine Paddle Boarding with some Canoeing/Kayaking/Climbing/Gorging/Bushcraft etc... if you have any questions please call 01600 890027.
