Canoe and Bivvy Weekend

Canoe Bivvying is a great way to experience the Wye Valley and is an opportunity not to be missed. We are based at the heart of the Wye Valley in the beautiful Symonds Yat West so we are in the perfect location in this amazing area. If Canoe Bivvying sounds great but you are feeling a little more Ray Mears then maybe try our Canoeing and Bushcraft Weekends.

Your Two Day Canoe Bivvy Adventure begins 12 miles up river of the market town of Ross on Wye at a little village called Hoarwithy in Herefordshire, we meet you at our base at Symonds Yat West at 8am and kit you out with everything you need before transporting you to the launch site at Hoarwithy, you then paddle down river with your Expert Guide taking in the stunning scenery, lunch on day one is a stop off at a local riverside pub (not included in price) at Ross before paddling a further couple of hours to your private riverside overnight location near Goodrich Castle.

The river meanders through meadows and tree lined hills and you are learning how to control your boat, you will pick it up quite quickly with a bit of help from your Guide, you will get into the rhythm of the water and the magic of the canoe as you glide through the beautiful surroundings through small rapids and onto your stop for the night.

After reaching your overnight stop in the stunning Wye Gorge your Guide will show you how to put together your bivouac shelter for the night using traditional methods, essentially all you need for shelter is your canoe, your paddles and a basha (tarp). Now you can relax, have a cold beer or coffee, maybe a swim to cool down before starting to prepare your food for the evening. Your overnight stop is a beautiful place, birds of prey soar above you while wild deer and wild boar roam the landscape all around you.

There is nothing like waking up in your sleeping bag outdoors, especially when it’s a fantastic spot like the Wye Gorge, you can hear the wildlife around you and there is mist on the river, it’s awesome. After a bit of breakfast you break camp and continue your journey now towards Symonds Yat and the famous rapids, paddling through the ancient carboniferous gorge you soon enter Wales and pass through Monmouth before getting back into the Gorge and entering England again but this time Gloucestershire, before finally finishing your trip at the beautiful little village of Redbrook where you are met by our staff and transported back to your cars at Hoarwithy.

If you have previous experience of paddling Canadian canoes solo then we are more than happy for you to come alone, but if you are new to the paddling scene you will enjoy the weekend far more as a tandem pair in canoe or even a 3 person canoe.

The Wye Valley is a stunning place to be at any time but accompanied by your expert guide you are going to get the best from your few days with us and will have a weekend not to forget!
